Jean-Baptiste Bres is Chief Information Security Officer and Director, Enterprise AI & Technology – Security, Risk & Compliance at AMP, one of Australia's best-known financial services groups, where he is responsible for cyber security, technology risk and compliance.
A French-Australian executive, he has spent more than 20 years in banking and financial services across Europe and Australia. Before AMP, he was Chief Information Security Officer for HSBC in Australia and New Zealand. He built the security function of Xinja, one of Australia's first digital banks, on a cloud-native technology stack, supported Avenue Bank on its path to a banking licence, and led information security at StatePlus. Earlier in his career he worked for BNP Paribas and Société Générale.
Jean-Baptiste sees security as the discipline that lets an organisation take the right risks, rather than one that tries to avoid them all. He favours security engineered into delivery rather than added at the end, risk expressed in business terms, and teams built on clear, shared accountability.
He is active in the security community: he co-facilitates the ISC2 Sydney Chapter's study group for the Certified in Cybersecurity exam, wrote a free guide to that certification, lectures in information technology at university level and mentors early-career security practitioners. He holds the CISSP, CGEIT, CC and Certified ScrumMaster certifications.
